Florida Aviation Database
Challenge:
The Florida Department of Transportation Aviation Office was in
need of a way to store, manage, and most of all analyze information
and data.
Solution: As a data-driven company, Panther
built a customized system that met the needs of the Florida
Department of Transportation. FAD (Florida Aviation Database) is a
web-based solution that facilitates data and customer
management.
Outcome: The FAD is more than a database.
It is a robust and intelligent system that streamlines the
collection, storage, retrieval, analysis, and reporting of
information. Gone are the days of paper files, missing documents,
multiple software programs, and reporting errors. FAD simplified
the process and increased the analytic capabilities with an easy to
use, dynamic reporting feature.
One example of time saved and accuracy ensured can be seen with
the applications used by the Florida Aviation Inspection and
Licensing department. Every public airport in
Florida is inspected and licensed by the state. The
inspection information is uploaded in the FAD one time and
automatically updates the Facility Information
Directory, published airport directory, mailing lists, system
plans, and the National Flight Data Center.
The Joint Automated Capital Improvement Program
(JACIP) application is a grant management system that allows
the State of Florida and the FAA to better coordinate and manage
their aviation grants. The accurate and dynamic listing of
aviation needs has increased federal grants to the state's
airports.
FAD's "Contact Manager Module with its Emergency notification
Overlay" was used by the FDOT in coordination with the FAA and FDLE
to immediately close all of Florida's airports following the events
of September 11.
"People are talking about the terrific program we have that let
us notify so many airports in less than a few seconds!"
--Richard Duley, FDOT Aviation Office (September 12, 2001)
